Terms of Use

The ground rules for using Vela, in plain language.

These terms apply to the Vela app and this website (together, “Vela”). By using Vela you agree to them. The app is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“the Apple EULA”), and these terms add to it. Where the two conflict, the Apple EULA wins.

For information only

Vela shows aircraft and vessel positions, routes, flight status and related details from third-party sources. That information can be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and coverage varies by place and time. Don’t use Vela for navigation, air traffic or vessel traffic decisions, safety of life, or any other purpose where an error could cause harm. For travel, check times and gates with your airline or operator.

Use Vela respectfully

You agree not to:

We may suspend access that breaks these rules or puts the service at risk.

Vela Plus

Vela Plus is an optional auto-renewable subscription, sold and billed by Apple through your Apple Account. The price and period are shown before you buy. It renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends; you can manage or cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings under your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

We work to keep Plus features running, but they depend on third-party data and services and may change. If we remove a paid feature, we’ll aim to replace it with something of similar value.

Ask AI

Ask AI answers are written automatically by an AI service and can be wrong or out of date. Treat them as a starting point, not as fact.

Your privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what Vela collects and why. The short version: the map needs no account, there are no ads or trackers, and your exact location stays on your device.

Third-party content

Maps, aircraft and vessel data, photos and AI answers come from other providers and stay theirs. Photo credits and data sources are shown in the app. Their terms may also apply to that content.

No warranty

Vela is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted, accurate or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Vela and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for decisions made using information shown in Vela. Our total liability for any claim about Vela is limited to the amount you paid for Vela Plus in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law.

Stopping

You can stop using Vela at any time. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel Vela Plus; cancel it in your subscription settings. To erase the data our servers hold for your install, use Settings → Delete My Vela Data in the app first.

Changes

We may update these terms as Vela changes. We’ll change the effective date above when we do, and continuing to use Vela after that means you accept the new terms.
